Elk Raffle Frequently Asked Questions

How do I purchase tickets?
To purchase tickets, go to www.twrf.net. You can use Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express.

How much does a raffle ticket cost?
Raffle tickets are $20 each, 3 for $50, or 10 for $100.

How many tickets can I buy?
You may purchase as many tickets as you wish.

When will I get my ticket(s)?
As soon as your ticket(s) are purchased, you will receive an electronic email confirming your purchase. You will not receive tickets. Every ticket sold will be assigned a unique identification number. The identification number for each ticket sold will be entered into an excel spreadsheet for the electronic drawing.

How many raffle tickets will be sold?
There is no limit on the number of tickets for sale.

Who can buy a raffle ticket?
Anyone 18 years of age or older may purchase a ticket. TWRF employees, board members, their spouses, and children are excluded from participating. Providers of prizes (along with their immediate families) and certain event vendors, their immediate families, employees, agents, and subcontractors are also prohibited from purchasing tickets or winning any prize. Any offer to participate is void where prohibited by law.

Is my raffle ticket tax-deductible?
No. The IRS’s position is that amounts paid for chances to win in raffles, lotteries, or similar drawings for valuable prizes are wagers, and consequently do not qualify as deductible charitable contributions.

What are my odds of winning?
The odds of winning a raffle prize depends on the number of tickets you purchase and the total number of tickets sold.

What are the prizes?
The Grand Prize (First Place) is the 2019 Tennessee Conservation Elk Tag, The Best of the West Mountain Scout Rifle in 6.5 PRC topped with a Huskemaw scope, and your Tennessee elk hunt will be filmed for an episode of The Best of the West outdoor television series.
The permit is designated specifically for Elk Hunting Zone #1. The zone has become well-known as the most prized area in the elk hunting area on the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area north of Knoxville, TN. In addition, if the lucky recipient does not take an elk during the seven days designated for the regular elk hunt, they will be allowed to hunt for an additional seven days in any other elk hunt zone of his or her choosing.

2nd Place winner receives a 2019 Polaris Ranger 570 in Pursuit Camo.

3rd Place winner receives a $2500.00 gift card from Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s.

4th Place winner receives the Knight Rifles .50 caliber Mountaineer muzzleloader.

5th Place winner receives the Hunters Gear Package.

When is the drawing held?
The electronic drawing will be held on August 5, 2019.

How will winners be notified?
The winners will be announced at the Tennessee Fish & Wildlife Commission meeting August 16, 2019. The winners will also be notified by phone and/or email using the contact info provided when purchasing the tickets.

Can I be entered into just one drawing?
No. You will be eligible for all of the prizes but you cannot choose a specific prize. If you purchase more than one ticket, you are eligible to win more than one prize.

Can I win more than one prize?
Yes. If you purchase more than one ticket, you are eligible to win more than one prize. Each ticket is assigned a unique identification number and every remaining ticket number is eligible to be drawn after the previous winning number is drawn.

Do I have to be present at the drawing to win?
No. You do not need to be present to win.

Are previous years winners still eligible?
Yes. Each year is a different raffle with different prizes.

What if I don’t like, or I am unable to accept the prize I win? Is there a cash alternative?
There are no cash alternatives to the prizes won. If a winner does not accept the prize, another winner will be drawn from the remaining tickets.

How do I claim my prize(s)?
The Polaris Ranger 570 can be claimed at Columbia Powersports Supercenter in Columbia, TN. TWRF is not responsible for transportation or shipping charges of the vehicle. All other prizes can be picked up at the TWRF office in Nashville, TN. or items can be shipped to winners (shipping rates may apply). If The Best of the West Scout rifle is not picked up at the TWRF office and needs to be shipped, it will have to go to your local Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer to complete the necessary forms.

Can I sell the elk tag if I choose not to use it?
No. The winner can choose to transfer the elk tag to an eligible hunter one time. No monetary gain can be made in the transaction.

Is the Elk Tag transferable?
The tag is for the 2019 season only. If the winner is unable, or chooses not participate in the hunt, he or she can choose to transfer the elk tag to an eligible hunter, one time. No monetary gain can be made in the transaction. Once the tag has been transferred, it cannot be transferred again.

Has the advertised Elk Tag been awarded in previous years?
Yes. Previously the NGO permit had been sold at auction. Last year (2018), the elk tag was raffled through TWRF for the first time. The 2018 elk tag raffle generated $224,000.00.

What happens to the proceeds generated by the raffle?
Proceeds from the 2019 Tennessee Elk Raffle benefit wildlife habitat management and restoration efforts in Tennessee.

How does the raffle benefit the Tennessee Elk Restoration Program?
The funds generated help the program by maintaining elk management areas through food plot development, controlled burns and maintenance of the elk viewing tower.

Are there any special hunting regulations for the winner of the elk tag?
The winner will have to abide by the rules and regulations established by the TFWC and published in the 2019 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide. The winner must possess the required licenses and permits to participate in the hunt. The 2019 Tennessee Gun Elk Season is October 12th through the 18th. The winner of this elk permit will be required to purchase an elk license before participating in the hunt. The resident elk license (Type 256) is $27.00, and a non-resident elk license (Type 257) is $300.00. Sportsman and Lifetime license holders are exempt from having to purchase the elk license. All other licenses and permits to hunt big game in Tennessee are required.
