Tennessee Kids in the Outdoors (TKO)
Tennessee Kids in the Outdoors (TKO) is one of TWRF's newest mission driven initiatives. TKO brings outdoor education to youth all over Middle Tennessee. Through a grant that we received, TWRF is able to assist with funding for outdoor related events in Middle Tennessee counties. TKO will expand on existing outdoor related programs (i.e. free fishing day, hunter’s safety courses, youth hunts, and other events) that wildlife officers and volunteers are conducting at the county level across Middle Tennessee so that youth who might not be exposed to the outdoors through their families have a chance to find out more about our natural resources. TWRF has a strong desire to see Tennessee's strong hunting and fishing heritage passed on to the youth of today. In a world where more and more young people are inside "plugged in" to their computers, video games, and TV sets, TKO strives to show them how much good clean fun can be had outside in the woods and waters of this great state.

Tennessee Hunter Education Program
TWRF is proud to partner with TWRA and its great volunteers in the Tennessee Hunter Education Program. Tennessee’s hunter education program is taught by a highly dedicated corps of volunteer instructors. These devoted individuals volunteer over 15,000 hours per year and personal resources in an effort to produce safe, ethical hunters.
Tennessee’s Hunter Education program works. The number of firearm related hunting accidents in Tennessee has declined dramatically over the past 30 years. In the 1970’s, firearm accidents occurred at a rate of 4.4 accidents per 100,000 licensed hunters in Tennessee. During the last five years that accident rate has declined to 2.05 accidents per 100,000 licensed hunters. We know that Tennessee’s Hunter Education program has reduced hunting accidents and saved lives.
