Kid Shooting

Date: June 13-18, 2010

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will be conducting the first annual Tennessee Outdoors Youth Summit (TOYS) June 13-18 for students in high schools across Tennessee in cooperation with the Montgomery County Sportsmen Association (MCSA) and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation (TWRF). Students will be introduced to many different outdoor activities including boating, hunting, trapping, archery, photography, marksmanship, plant identification, forestry, camping, water quality, trap shooting, skeet shooting, wildlife identification, and several classes with wildlife and fishery biology as the topic. Students will participate in hands-on classes that will teach the importance of the natural resources and their management. Instructors will be wildlife and fisheries biologists, wildlife officers, college professors, professional shooting coaches, and experts from fields of interest. Students can plan on each class they sign up for to be two to four hours long and will include hands-on application in that subject. Once the students are accepted to the program, they will be able to attend at least ten classes during the week they have chosen. During this week, the students will have the opportunity to gain certification in many different programs. TOYS will provide youth opportunities to learn more about hunting, fishing, and shooting. Students that are interested in a career in the natural resources field, will also enjoy the experiences that normally are not learned until you join the work force.

Hunt Poster

Date: April 9th & 10th, 2010

Hunters from all over the volunteer state flock to Pulaski each spring to join in on this exciting hunt. The Counties of Giles, Lincoln, Lawrence, Marshall, and Maury have some of the highest turkey populations in the state, and with the help of experienced local guides, up to 75 hunters try their luck at a great Tennessee tradition each year. Click here to register to hunt this year.

There are many community events associated with the hunt. On Friday before the hunt there is clay target shooting and a turkey shoot. This event is open to the public, and is a great way to check your sights on your turkey gun before opening day

Friday night will be a great time with the guides and hunter's dinner at the Hillcrest Country Club. There will be food available from 4:30-8:30 so that folks can come eat early and go roost birds, or come eat after they have put that big bird to roost. After the dinner, you can go out to Kathy's Tavern and hear some great tunes from Daryle Singletary. He will perform at Kathy's Friday Night, and at the Banquet Saturday night at Cardin Distributing. For more information, contact Kathy's Tavern at 931-363-9289.
